Marlin 795 discontinued.
The 795 is a great vehicle for appleseed. Just because lots of people get sucked into 10/22s for the aftermarket parts doesn't mean its a better rifle. The 795 is easily more accurate out of the box than a 10/22, cost less, and is a heck of a lot of fun to shoot. There are quite a few RFCers who have taken 795s to AS events and done great.

I have a Skinner barrel mounted peep on the 60 and tech sights on the 795. I would take the 795 every time. Glenfield Model 60, 795, 915y.
However, let's not pre-judge the Marlin. The 795 is very typical of the genre with a straight, blow-back action and 10-shot, single column box magazine. The receiver is alloy and shows an integral, ½" base for scope mounting. The only thing I've done to the 795 is to throw a set of Tech Sights on it, polish the bolt, and fiberglass bedded a steel rod in the forearm and weighted the buttstock a bit.
