Duramax ticking noise.
What you are describing is the common type writer tick. Very common after an oil change. Basically you get some air trapped in the lifter oil passage and it takes a bit of time for it to work out. When my LMM does it it takes 30 to 50 miles for it to clear up. Some claim that T6 or Amsoil are more prone to this.

I have a 2003 Duramax and I had that ticking problem when I bought it. I put in the diesel fuel supplement in the grey bottle according mixture on the bottles directions to raise cetane level and lube injector pump and injectors. in one treatment ticking was gone and real noticeable power improvement. worked real well!!The next noise is a tick typically heard at low vehicle speed and especially next to a building, like when going through a drive through. This is the DEF Injector and again is normal noise. The last noise is a rhythmic tick. This sound will require further diagnosis and may be accompanied by a loss of power, misfire and an SES lamp …

These new diesels are so quiet now that you can hear all the weird stuff that has always made noise but was drowned out by engine rattle. New Ride: 2020 GMC 2500 CCLB DMAX. The proper repair for that is to replace all of the high presure fuel side and flush the low pressure side. A failure of the hpfp sends tiny little metal bits into the fuel injectors damaging them. The hpfp is on the front lower driver side of the engine ...
