The 1301 is a great shotgun in its own right, and Beretta has a very rich .mil history across the board and is more ingrained in military weaponry than Benelli is. I don't have as much time behind the 1301 as the M4 but so far both have been reliable for me. I'm tempted to say the M4 might have the edge over the 1301 since it's been well regarded by military users. One thing that can't be argued is that the 1301 handles much better. Both of mine are similarly set up but the M4 feels like a pig in comparison.
