The difference is their Status effects: the Piece Effect, Sleek Effect, and Set Bonus. The Piece Effects and Sleek Effects stack with other Armors, so mixing and matching can be better that the Set Bonus.

overall best armor IMO is spider armor (medium defense and significant stamina buffs which helps in doing pretty much everything, including ranged and melee combat) my mobility build which i use to move around the map quickly includes aphid slippers and mite hat for quick stamina regen, also stamina buff and sprint mutations.
