Currently, we can upgrade either pump type by outfitting your pump with Dieselmeken’s 7.5mm elements. Pumps are cleaned, tore down enough to perform the upgrade, resealed, and bench calibrated. The goal is to build a very fuel efficient diesel little pickup. So after I seized up the 2nd om617 in that truck I decided to go with an om616. Truck was getting 30.7 mpg average between city and highway with the om 617 and a 4 speed. The new build is getting a 5 speed Toyota trans and an om616. Just go 22re or 3rzfe and turbo it, they can make a-lot more power than either of the v6’s with better mpg. If you dont care about brand or resale value, go with a 6bt, maybe a 4bt but that has worse mpg, an om617 would work too but not nearly as reliable as a cummins

Honestly, the mercedes OM617 is a better engine than the 6.2/6.5 and will return better fuel economy. In fact any diesel engine you could get from anywhere would be better. The OM617 adapter plates are roughly $400. I can get an adapter plate for the following manual transmissions: AX-15.So after some minor research it appears the OM617 produces at least 40 more ft/lbs of torque and at least 30 more horse power than the Jeep 2.5l. It also produces this torque at a much lower rpm than the 2.5. All the while more than doubling the fuel economy of the vehicle.

The mbz om617.950 motor is already a huge improvement, by huge i mean costs less than rebuilding the 230, add to that todays fuels and oils with all the additives needed that i cant buy in California, diesel just seems best option and om617 is very similar in size, weight and power output plus fuel is cheapest with 2x better mpg.
