This is a reason. but my void lmg with volatile was also not stunning the barrier champ. If you were granted volatile from Gyrfalcon's, that's why. It is currently bugged. 11. Pretty nice with feeding frenzy though! honestly, just get an Unforgiven from Duality, and run the fragment to get volatile rounds on grenade kills/orbs.
