I'd like to add the New Cobra, New King Cobra, New Python, and the New Anaconda to the list. The other models might utilize the same grip frame size so equivalent old type grips will interchange, but for the Cobra, I know the new frame is slightly different, where the edges are beveled.

I'm not crazy about the fiber optic front sight on my King Cobra Target and would like to replace it with either a Python blade or brass bead.Colt King Cobra six inch vs. S&W 617 six inch. Feb 2, 2010 · The King Cobra doesn't have the same interior works as the Python. It was truly manufactured more to a mass market, much the same as the S&W L frame has been marketed. The King Cobra is more of a duty, or field grade, revolver. You can expect to pay $600, and upward for a King Cobra.

Colt built the King Cobra to compete with the 686/586. The Python is more of a custom gun with a lot of fine tuning and was not as durable as the 686/586. Also, back when Colt made Pythons and King Cobras the 686/586 was a 6-shot revolver as well. S&W came out with the 7-shot later.
