The 330 uses a lot of forged internals so it's pretty stout. Your biggest limitation with stock pistons and any kind of FI is going to be due to the compression ratio, which will limit the amount of boost you can add without major detonation issues. The 4L80E needs very little to handle 600-700 HP. A 34 element sprag (stock on later models) and some hydraulic modifications, heavier intermediate snap ring, assembly tricks is about all it needs. Anything with an overdrive is going to be "electronic" and need a controller. 4L80E or 4L85E would be your best choices by far. The only ones that will bolt right up directly to your big block would be ones from a Vortec 7.4L (454) or Vortec 8.1L. Those have the same bell housing bolt pattern as your big block.
