D lights usually mean an electrical problem. If you get the car scanned, it should have a history dtc stored. Get the car scanned and get the DTC. Also whining noise has a lot to do with worn gears inside the transmission not making proper contact.

I should mentioned, the first time it happened, the van was sluggish, I turned it off and restarted it and it seemed better but not perfect.
